You
can import a wide variety of file formats into After Effects including Adobe
Photoshop files, Adobe Premier projects, QuickTime and AVI movies.
By default, After Effects opens
a new Project window when you start the application. When you know the media
for your final project, you are ready to create a project by importing your
footage items into a new Project window. You can also open a new Project window
at any time from the file menu.
- Choose File menu> New > New Project, If you want to create a new project or you can also use the shortcut key 'Ctrl' + 'Alt' + 'N'.
- To start importing the file to your AE project can be of different ways like 'Right' click on the project window > import > "choose your file format to import" or 'Double' click on the project window to browse for the file or goto File menu> import> "choose your file format to import".
- You can also import multiple files by selecting Multiple files from the above ways.
Setting up a Composition:
In a project of After Effects,
every media file cannot be worked directly in that media file. So It uses the
Compositions to work with the media files. A composition provides the framework
for you to add, arrange and animate your footage. Composition exists only
within a project. You can have multiple compositions in a project; you can even
have compositions within compositions. When you set up a composition, you can
establish the layout, including the frame size, duration and resolution for
your final output.
Each footage file you add to a
composition becomes a layer that you can animate and manipulate with effects.
At any time, you can change any aspect of the composition. For example, you can
delete or replace a footage item, adjust an effect or animation settings, or
even change the duration for your final output. Remember the animations you
create in After Effects are reversible; everything is adjustable.
- To create a Composition, the bottom left of the
Project window there will be 3 icons in that the third option will be the
composition icon. Click on the icon
or press 'Ctrl' + 'N' to open the window to
setup the composition.
- then the following window will be opened displaying "composition settings" of the Composition.
- In the Composition Settings dialog box, set the Composition Name and specify the settings as your final output must be.
- I have the settings of HDTV 1080p from the presets, Aspect ratio is pixel density, Frame rate is no. of frames per second, Resolution is preview resolution, Start time code is the starting frame of the composition and duration is the length of the composition and background colour is for displaying the transparent colour.
